Freedom is Our Birthright, Not the Government’s Political Card Game

Freedom is Our Birthright, Not the Government's Political Card Game

A group of Michigan lawmakers has unveiled a bill that would remove the permit requirement to carry a concealed pistol.

This bill is a small part in taking the freedom back that was taken from us, aimed at aligning the state's laws with our Constitution. The freedom that is shrinking day after day. A few days ago, I heard that police arrested someone for wearing a bulletproof vest in public, while they install license plate readers at our street corners to surveil our movements.

Some of you staunch pacifists may argue against his right to express himself, accusing the man of creating a distraction by taking such extreme measures to protect himself—by wearing a bulletproof vest. You might say that in a normal day in our society, one shouldn’t need to resort to such measures; public streets are neither fashion runways nor gun ranges. You could claim that he brought suspicion upon himself, leading to his arrest.

You may be right in those arguments if we lived in a perfect utopian society where safety is guaranteed for all, not just the privileged elite, while others remain open targets. Protecting oneself with a gun, knife, or bulletproof vest is no different from praying to God or the Devil for protection. We, the people, are born to be free, but from our very first breath, we are met with rules, regulations, bureaucracy, and debt. The same goes for our last breath upon departure.

Governments have been programming us since the beginning to follow the system and to become good consumers who do not dissent. Every time you hear that freedom has been stripped from someone—even if that someone is not part of your tribe—you should be worried because they are coming for you next.
